Implenia General Contractors built the new Letzigrund Stadium on behalf of the City of Zurich. The two-stage project called for complex site logistics.
Construction commenced in November, 2005. The first stage, affecting parts of the new main grandstand, proceeded while the stadium was in full operation. The second stage, which we started in August 2006, entailed demolition, excavation and construction of the new stadium. The project necessitated certain environmental protection measures: We conducted regular air quality and seismic checks, got truck wheels washed in a special, fully automated machine every time they left the site and processed on site much of the excavated material for new construction use.
The project was completed on time in September of 2007. Just in time for the event «Weltklasse Zürich» in 2007 and the football Euro in 2008.
