Halde canton school, Chur

  • Complete restoration of the Halde canton school, some work performed when school was in attendance.
  • First place in competition for total services.
  • Complex decontamination, earthquake-proofing, rock-face stabilisation, restoration of burial chapel from the 5th/6th century.

The requirements placed on the entire project team of Implenia General Contracting Ltd. were as challenging as they were interesting. The project was by no means routine, including complex work to secure the St. Stephan burial chapel from the 5th/6th centuries under Pausenplatz and the extremely extensive and complicated decontamination process to remove the pollutants PCB and asbestos. The strict decontamination requirements stipulated by the canton were all met and confirmed by measurements. The building was supplied with a thermally insulated façade, modern building technology including a photovoltaic system that produces approx. 40,000 kWh per year and a new interior design and modern furnishings in line with the building function. The technical infrastructure is consistent with current educational research. The users of the Bündner canton school have classrooms that incorporate the latest findings. The schedule for the extensive restoration work was ambitious especially because decontamination alone took nine months for the first phase.
