The usability of the section of the N1 from Hagenbuch to Wängi which opened in 1970 is to be guaranteed in the next few years by means of the planned maintenance measures. To achieve this goal, the Lützelmurg viaduct has to be widened for the planned traffic routing 4/0 and simultaneously overhauled.

The existing twin bridges are steel-concrete composite bridges designed as continuous beams. With a length of 224 metres (axis dimension), they cross the Lützelmurg at a height of up to 30 metres. The twin bridge construction was overhauled and each bridge widened by 1.75 metres so that the emergency lanes are also continuous in the bridge area.

Construction method: The plate widening and the new concrete embankment are supported by an additional metal beam per bridge in the longitudinal direction. These beams are placed on the widened abutments and supports. The existing flat foundations were also widened and supported with micro-piles. The necessary maintenance work was also carried out and new seals and pavement integrated. The bearings and the road crossings were also replaced.
